As marijuana arrests become less common in Miami-Dade, one city’s approach stands out

From 2019 to 2024, Miami Beach had one of the county's highest rates of marijuana arrests, with a majority involving Black individuals, despite Black residents comprising only a small percentage of the city's population.


Local laws permit $100 fines for possession, but Miami Beach often opts for arrests instead, which local officials argue is intended to maintain order in the area.
