A California teen has filed a lawsuit against the cannabis company Stiiizy, claiming that underage use of its vaporizer products triggered a severe psychotic episode.

The family of a 16-year-old, identified in court documents as "KG," filed the suit in Los Angeles County Superior Court, alleging that Stiiizy's advertising enticed the teen to begin using its products, ultimately leading to his mental health crisis.

According to reports by San Francisco's KRON, the teen was exposed to Stiiizy advertisements on Snapchat, which he claims portrayed the products as “cool.” This latest lawsuit, following a similar case filed in Marin County in May, asserts that Stiiizy's marketing is negligent and fails to warn of the potential mental health risks associated with cannabis use, particularly for underage consumers.

The case details a troubling chain of events, starting with the teen’s psychotic episode on April 20, 2022. KG reportedly drove to San Francisco International Airport, attempting to board a plane while impersonating a famous rapper. He was eventually located by police, and after his condition persisted for days, he was admitted to a psychiatric facility. Another psychotic episode occurred in December 2023, requiring further intervention.

The lawsuit contends that Stiiizy promotes its products as remedies for stress and anxiety without sufficient warnings about the possible mental health risks. Attorney Sarah London, representing the family, emphasized that Stiiizy's approach leaves users “unaware of the potential mental health crises that can ensue.” Stiiizy has yet to respond to the allegations.

This case raises critical questions about the marketing practices of cannabis companies and the responsibility to warn users—especially underage individuals—of the potential psychiatric risks.
