Known for their lively and often tipsy broadcasts, the duo rings in the new year with celebrity guests and candid moments.
This year, their interview with DJ Diplo took an unexpected turn when the artist revealed his psychedelic approach to celebrating the holiday.
Diplo, who has openly discussed his use of LSD in the past—including claims of running the Los Angeles Marathon while under its influence—joined the broadcast from Los Angeles, where he was preparing for a show at Avalon Nightclub. When Cohen playfully asked, “What’s the most conventional place you’ve done LSD?” Diplo responded with a grin, “Right now.”
His confession drew laughter from Cohen and Cooper, with Diplo adding that he had taken acid during a helicopter ride earlier in the day.
“You’re tripping right now?!” Cohen exclaimed, barely containing his excitement.
Diplo clarified that he was experiencing a “light trip” but might have macrodosed earlier. Cooper then joked, asking how they looked to him at that moment, prompting Diplo to reply, “You guys look beautiful!”
Curious about the method, Cohen asked whether Diplo used LSD breath spray. The DJ said he preferred liquid drops instead.
The hilarious exchange quickly went viral, racking up tens of thousands of likes online. Diplo’s laid-back demeanor paired with Cohen and Cooper’s enthusiastic reactions captured the unpredictable charm of CNN’s New Year’s Eve Live. Known for offbeat and spontaneous moments, the show has developed a reputation for delivering memorable TV as the clock strikes midnight
