A suit in Florida federal court alleges cannabis company Curaleaf discriminated against one of its managers due to his age and an injury he sustained at work by firing him after he enlisted an attorney to assist with his workers' compensation claim.

In August 2021, plaintiff Dino Colao said he was hurt and went on medical leave, requesting to return to work on "light duty status," which the suit painted as a reasonable request that would allow him to get back to work.

But Calao said in his suit filed Friday that Curaleaf didn't engage with him and denied his requested accommodation, and he hired an attorney. In February 2022, his attorney purportedly reached out to Curaleaf's counsel to discuss the workers' compensation claim.
