The research showed that alcohol impaired a driver’s ability to maintain consistent speed, often causing drivers to drive faster than intended. In contrast, cannabis users tended to drive more cautiously, with a tendency to slow down or drive below the speed limit.
While alcohol increased reckless driving behaviors and risk-taking, cannabis users generally overcompensated for their impairment, which often led to more conservative driving.
However, both substances negatively impacted a driver’s ability to stay in their lane and react to sudden changes, making it clear that neither is safe for driving.
This study reaffirms that while the effects of alcohol and cannabis differ, both still compromise road safety
