Ex-Curaleaf exec’s suit charges cannabis MSO with harassment, racist comments

Khadijah Tribble, a former senior vice president at Curaleaf Holdings, has filed a lawsuit alleging that her termination from the cannabis company was a result of her complaints about workplace harassment, including sexual and racist remarks.

The lawsuit, filed against Curaleaf and its former CEO Matt Darin, claims Tribble was dismissed in March 2023 after taking a leave of absence due to mental health concerns following a death threat she received from a company vendor.

Tribble, who previously led Curaleaf’s diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts as well as initiatives related to corporate social responsibility, seeks compensation for various damages, including:

- Emotional distress

- Lost wages, including back pay and lost benefits

- Front pay, typically awarded in cases involving employment discrimination or retaliation

- Unpaid wages

- Attorneys’ fees and legal expenses

Her annual salary reportedly rose from $200,000 to $275,000 in 2022, yet the suit contends her compensation was not commensurate with that of her white, male counterparts at Curaleaf’s executive level. Tribble, who had been recognized for her achievements within the company and briefly served as interim CEO of the U.S. Cannabis Council, argues that Curaleaf's handling of her complaints and subsequent dismissal were discriminatory and retaliatory.

The lawsuit underscores ongoing challenges around diversity, equity, and harassment within the cannabis industry, where efforts to build inclusive workplaces continue to encounter significant barriers.
