Emmanuel-Thomas, who currently plays for Greenock Morton in the Scottish Championship, was arrested by National Crime Agency (NCA) officers in Gourock, Inverclyde. His arrest followed the seizure of around 60kg of cannabis in two suitcases at Stansted airport on 2 September, detected by Border Force officers after the drugs arrived on a flight from Bangkok, Thailand.

Emmanuel-Thomas is expected to appear at Carlisle magistrates court, facing charges related to importing class B drugs. Two women, aged 28 and 32, were also arrested in connection with the case and appeared in Chelmsford magistrates court. They are due back in court in October.

The NCA has emphasized the significant consequences of drug smuggling and recently warned travelers from countries like Thailand, Canada, and the U.S. about the severe penalties for attempting to import cannabis into the UK, noting an increase in related arrests this year.
