TMZ reports that police searched his Los Angeles home following a tip about a cannabis grow operation.
According to law enforcement sources, officers obtained a search warrant and arrived at Smart's property around 9 AM on December 23. Smart and a woman were present during the search.
Authorities reportedly discovered a small- to medium-sized cannabis grow operation at the residence. Instead of taking Smart into custody, officers cited and released him at the scene. The case has been referred to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office, which will determine whether to press charges.
Smart gained public attention for his relationship with Jennifer Lopez, whom he dated on and off for five years starting in 2011, following her divorce from Marc Anthony. Lopez previously credited Smart with helping her recover from the breakup. The couple ultimately split in 2016, with reports suggesting infidelity on Smart's part contributed to their breakup.
TMZ has reached out to Smart for comment, but he has not yet responded.
