Local Marijuana Dispensary Faces Potential Closure Due to Ban on Recreational Sales

A medical marijuana dispensary in Hubbard, Ohio, is at risk of closing in the coming months due to the city's ban on recreational marijuana sales. Dustin Crites, manager of ACA Dispensary on East Liberty Street, urged Hubbard City Council on Monday to lift the moratorium on recreational dispensaries, citing its impact on business.

With declining medicinal sales and reduced store hours, Crites expressed concerns about keeping the store open until the November election when the issue will be on the ballot. ACA is already state-approved for a dual-use license, but the ban prevents them from offering recreational sales.

Crites emphasized that the city is losing tax revenue, with community members traveling to nearby Warren and Youngstown to purchase recreational marijuana. He argued that recreational sales would generate significantly more revenue than medicinal sales.

Councilman Michael Mogg spoke in favor of lifting the ban, asking the council to reconsider the decision made in June, highlighting the potential economic benefits for the city.

Crites and other industry professionals, including representatives from nearby cannabis facilities and a Cleveland School of Cannabis instructor, addressed concerns about the legalization of recreational marijuana. They stressed that sales would be limited to those over 21, similar to alcohol regulations.

If the vote to overturn the ban fails in November, Crites fears that ACA Dispensary will have no choice but to close or relocate.
