LOUISVILLE, Ky. —
Louisville firefighters can temporarily use medical cannabis while off-duty without facing disciplinary action, thanks to a recent judge's order.
The union representing the firefighters took legal action after the department initially prohibited the use of medical cannabis, which became legal in Kentucky on January 1.

The judge's order will remain in effect until an injunction hearing in March, which will seek a permanent order.
The current order does not permit on-duty use or reporting to work under the influence.
The grievance process with the city is expected to take months.
