Missouri’s cannabis regulators have issued a recall for more than 23,000 marijuana products due to improper testing by the Fulton-based lab, ClearWater Science.

According to the Missouri Division of Cannabis Regulation (DCR), the recalled products didn’t go through “compliant” testing, meaning the state couldn’t verify whether they met health and safety standards.
While no adverse effects have been reported so far, the DCR is advising anyone who feels they might be experiencing an issue to seek medical help. They’ve also encouraged consumers to stop using the recalled products and either dispose of them or return them to the dispensary where they were bought.
This recall follows another massive recall about a month ago when over 132,000 marijuana products were pulled from shelves. That earlier recall, one of the largest in the cannabis industry, also involved non-compliant lab testing and problems with tracking in the state’s Metric system.
These recalls, along with new plain packaging regulations that came into effect on September 1, are leading to a shortage of cannabis products in Missouri. Data from cannabis wholesale platform LeafLink shows that the number of available product varieties, or SKUs, sold in Missouri dispensaries has dropped by 20%, falling from 4,200 in the summer to around 3,400 in recent weeks.
While safety is a top concern, the combination of recalls and stricter regulations is having a noticeable impact on the availability of cannabis products for consumers across the state.
