Titus has been appointed co-chair of the Congressional Cannabis Caucus, replacing U.S. Rep. Earl Blumenauer of Oregon, who is retiring.
"In Nevada and 23 other states that have decriminalized marijuana, the cannabis industry has proven itself to be responsible," Titus said in a statement. "It’s time for the federal government to catch up."
Blumenauer, a founding member of the Cannabis Caucus established in 2017, aimed to push forward cannabis reform at the federal level. The caucus includes lawmakers from states where recreational marijuana is legal.
Cannabis reform advocates expect Titus to push for fair regulations and continued progress.
“Congresswoman Titus has long been a champion of sensible cannabis policy reform, dating back to her time as a state senator,” said Riana Durrett, director of the Cannabis Policy Institute at UNLV. “Her expertise and leadership in this area will be invaluable.”
