VANCOUVER ISLAND, BC — Canadian authorities have dismantled an organized crime ring involved in the production and distribution of counterfeit cannabis-laced edibles.
Six individuals have been arrested following a month-long investigation led by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP).
The operation began on October 3 when RCMP executed search warrants across two dispensaries and five homes on Vancouver Island, British Columbia.
The targeted dispensaries included Green Coast Dispensary in Port Alberni and Coastal Storm Dispensary in Lantzville, with additional raids conducted at a suspected stash location and a production facility linked to Coastal Storm.
Items Seized in Raids:
- Over 120,000 cannabis edibles packaged to mimic popular snacks like chocolate bars, chips, and honey
- More than 3 kg of psilocybin mushrooms and 1,740 psilocybin capsules
- Over 500 pounds of cannabis bud and 19 pounds of shatter
- 5,000 cannabis vape cartridges, along with cannabis resin and contraband tobacco (82,000 packs)
- A shotgun, $400,000 in cash, and five vehicles
According to RCMP, the seized cannabis edibles were produced in “highly unsanitary and contaminated” modular trailers, which increased the risk of cross-contamination. Labels on the edibles reportedly exaggerated potency levels, with some claiming to be "100 times more potent" than regulated products.
The investigation is ongoing, and authorities have announced that additional drug-related charges are expected.
