Presidential Candidate Donald Trump confirmed late Sunday that he’s all in on supporting a Florida marijuana legalization measure, after hinting earlier that he might back it.
“As I’ve said before, it’s time to stop the needless arrests and jail time for adults using small amounts of marijuana for personal use,” Trump shared on Truth Social. “We also need to put smart regulations in place, while making sure adults have access to safe, tested products.”
Trump didn’t stop there. “As a Floridian, I’ll be voting YES on Amendment 3 this November,” he added. “And as President, we’ll keep focusing on research to unlock marijuana’s medical uses by reclassifying it as a Schedule 3 drug. We’ll also work with Congress to pass common-sense laws, like safe banking for state-authorized businesses, and support states' rights to pass their own marijuana laws—just like Florida is doing.”
Last month, Trump hinted that he could back the recreational marijuana measure in Florida. “In Florida, just like in many other states, personal amounts of marijuana will be legalized for adults under Amendment 3,” he posted on Truth Social. “Whether people like it or not, it’s going to happen through voter approval, so it’s important to do it right.”
Meanwhile, back in May, the Biden administration announced that it had started the process to reschedule marijuana from a Schedule I drug to a Schedule III drug.
“This is huge,” President Biden said in a statement on X. “Today, my administration took a major step toward reclassifying marijuana. It’s a big move toward fixing long-standing inequities.”
