Whoopi Goldberg was honored with a Key to the City of West Hollywood on Saturday, July 20, 2024. WeHo Vice Mayor Chelsea Byers and council members Sepi Shyne and Lauren Meister presented the EGOT winner and veteran host of The View with the highest West Hollywood honor at the Woods WeHo.

Also in attendance were California State Senator Ben Allen and the office of California State Representative Rich Chavez Zbur presented her with a Certificate of Recognition.

The City of West Hollywood proudly recognized Whoopi Goldberg for her outstanding contributions to entertainment, arts, culture, and activism. With a career spanning over four decades, Goldberg has earned numerous accolades, including an Academy Award, Emmy Awards, a Grammy Award, and a Tony Award.

“West Hollywood is always one of the favorite places because people here know how to live and really give zero fucks if people understood them,” she said at the ceremony. “And that to me is life. That’s how we all have to live. It’s what you feel, who you are, and I was raised that way. And so it’s such an honor to be standing with you all because you also represent the best of the best.”

Beyond her artistic achievements, the city also praised Whoopi for being a dedicated advocate for social justice, human rights, and LGBTQ+ rights. She has been vocal about critical issues affecting the Greater Los Angeles region, such as homelessness, substance abuse, and the battle against AIDS. As a Goodwill Ambassador to the United Nations, Goldberg’s charitable work extends internationally. The proclamation also applauded her for how she has championed medicinal cannabis, focusing on products for women’s health.

Whoopi Goldberg (born Caryn Elaine Johnson) was also at the Woods to promote her official launch of two new cannabis brands under her WhoopFam umbrella: Emma & Clyde, and a revamped Whoopi & Maya line. Fans were given a chance to meet and greet Whoopi with the purchase of some of her items.

Emma & Clyde, named after Goldberg’s late mother and brother, will be available in select stores in California, Arizona, and Ohio. Initially launched in 2022 with a limited run in Arizona, the brand offers products for both medical and recreational users, including edibles, pre-rolls, flowers, and accessories.

Goldberg’s second brand, Whoopi & Maya, originally launched in 2016 and shuttered less than four years later, returns with a focus on menstrual relief, general pain relief, and holistic wellness. The line includes cacao edibles, tinctures, topicals, and hydrotherapy products.

“I have a long, extensive, and very crazy history with West Hollywood,” Whoopi told WEHO TIMES. “I’ve lived here. I’ve worked here. I’ve been here forever, and now I’m not.”

Whoopi Goldberg is now in the company of Lady Gaga, Lou Adler, Stormy Daniels, Drew Barrymore, Cheech & Chong, and more who have been honored with a Key to the City.
