Will Ohio marijuana prices come down in 2025?

CLEVELAND (WJW) – Ohio's recreational marijuana market is still in its early stages.

Legal sales began in August, but many consumers are expressing frustration over product prices, particularly when compared to significantly lower costs in neighboring states.

A 29-year-old lost their life in a tragic Christmas Eve fire.

“I think our prices should be more reasonable,” said one woman who requested anonymity. “Sometimes, I drive to Michigan or rely on others. I want to spend my money in Cleveland and contribute to local improvements, but the prices are just too high.”

Online data from the Ohio Division of Cannabis Control indicates that 1/10 of an ounce of flower is priced at $21.65, equating to $216 per ounce. In Michigan, the same quantity costs approximately $80.

Ohio consumers are eager for a price adjustment, but is that feasible?

The Division of Cannabis Control clarified that it does not regulate pricing.

“Licensed dispensaries are private businesses that determine retail prices based on factors such as product type, supply, wholesale costs, and demand,” Public Information Officer Jamie Crawford stated via email.

Crawford noted that over 100 new dispensaries are expected to open in Ohio by 2025. This expansion could foster competition and potentially lower prices.

Despite these developments, some customers remain skeptical about Ohio’s current approach.

“Lower prices would bring more revenue into Ohio instead of pushing it to other states,” the woman added.
